Index funds: what they track and what investors still need to check
An index fund seeks to follow a defined market index. It is the definition of the index which determines the exposure, while the fund itself provides the mechanism for achieving that exposure. Before comparing fees, holdings and tracking results, read the index methodology and the funds’ documentation. While index investing reduces market risk, it cannot eliminate it.
